A group of archaeologists become trapped in the past when they go there to retrieve a friend. The group must survive in 14th century France before they can escape back to the 21st Century.
A time travel always changes the present. When a group of archeologists go back in the year 1357 on a rescue mission they find themselves in the middle of a war between the English and the French troops. They try to return to the present safely altogether.
One of the few times that I actually considered walking out of the cinema…<br/><br/>Having read the book and being a fan of Michael Crichton&#39;s novels, admittedly I did go in expecting to be disappointed. What I didn&#39;t expect was the awful, hacked up, Swiss-cheese plot that bore utterly no resemblance to the book whatsoever – other than a vague connection of something to do with medieval France.<br/><br/>116 minutes of pure torture. The plot seemed to be so badly translated from the book to the film that it made me wonder if Michael Crichton was involved in the movie at all. It would be interesting to know what he thought of the film.<br/><br/>Perhaps if I had not have read the book it wouldn&#39;t have seemed so bad. Let&#39;s hope that the next Michael Crichton novel adaptation is better than this one.
This film is a good novel ruined. The book contained interesting and useful elements of history, and caused me to re-think my perceptions of the middle ages. This film turns all that into a bad video game. When will film makers learn that special effects should support a well told story… not try to take the story&#39;s place?
An instant contender for cult status on the midnight-movie circuit, where lines like "Do we look like quantum wormhole specialists?" will be given the respect they deserve.
There are 10 people who traveled in time; this is what happened to each of them:<br/><br/>Chris, Kate &amp; Chris&#39; father, prof. Johnston all make it back to 2003 safely.<br/><br/>Frank Gordon: Gets a sword in the chest from De Kere and is left for dead when he is cut loose from the wagon.<br/><br/>François: Gets killed by one of Lord Olliver&#39;s aides-de-camps; also via a sword in the chest (They think he&#39;s a spy sent by Lord Arnaud).<br/><br/>Gomez: Gets too many arrows in his chest from an English archer as soon as the group gets to 1357. He is left for dead.<br/><br/>Baretta: Blows himself up with his own grenade as he hits his marker, thus he dies in 2003 (He also blows up the time machine).<br/><br/>Decker/De Kere: Dies in the battle of La Roque when the French army attack the castle.<br/><br/>André Marek: Chooses to remain in 1357 and get married to Claire.<br/><br/>Doniger: Steps into the time machine as Chris, Kate &amp; Prof Johnston are coming back to the present. He gets his neck slashed by a knight&#39;s sword as soon as he gets to 1357.
